{"id":235,"date":"2016-03-08T05:41:01","date_gmt":"2016-03-08T05:41:01","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/shelbycountylefoundation.com\/?page_id=235"},"modified":"2016-03-08T06:20:40","modified_gmt":"2016-03-08T06:20:40","slug":"citizens-sheriffs-academy","status":"publish","type":"page","link":"http:\/\/shelbycountylefoundation.com\/?page_id=235","title":{"rendered":"Citizens Sheriff\u2019s Academy"},"content":{"rendered":"<p align=\"center\"><strong>Shelby County Sheriff\u2019s Office to Offer a Citizens Sheriff\u2019s Academy<\/strong><\/p>\n<p>The Shelby County Sheriff\u2019s Office in partnership with the Shelby County Law Enforcement Foundation will offer a Citizens Sheriff\u2019s Academy twice a year in the Spring and Fall.\u00a0 The Citizens Sheriff\u2019s Academy is a 12-week program designed to introduce and educate citizens to the various law enforcement practices and procedures of the Sheriff\u2019s Office including criminal investigations, laws and the court system, uniform\/patrol division, drug task force, tactical response unit, and other special units of the Sheriff\u2019s Office.\u00a0 Included in the program will be a tour of the county jail, an opportunity to \u201cride-along\u201d on patrol with a Deputy Sheriff, and an opportunity to receive basic firearms safety training and use the Sheriff\u2019s Office firearms range.<\/p>\n<p>The academy is open to anyone 18 years of age or older who lives or works in Shelby County.\u00a0 Due to the nature of the Academy and the topics\/activities presented, all applicants to the program are subject to a criminal background check and driver\u2019s license check conducted by the Sheriff\u2019s Office as a condition for acceptance into the program.\u00a0 Classes will be held every Thursday evening from 6:30 \u2013 8:30 p.m. at the Shelby County Sheriff\u2019s Office Training Center on McDow Road in Columbiana, AL.<\/p>\n<p>Class size is limited to 25 students.
